Synergetics Friends!
It's
never too late to wish you a happy new year - even as spring
approaches! So here's the card we sent out in January to our
family. And since we consider you part of our family too, here's
our humourous, but heart felt happy new year wish for you:
Above,
you can just see our cottage behind the icy limbs. The view
is of the long ridge behind the Art House across the road from
our cottage where I (Taylor) make PocketGyms and ship orders
all over the world. The Art House is rustic inside, but everyone
who stays there loves it. The other day I shipped four orders:
one to Iowa, one to Paris, France, one to Dublin, Ireland and
one to somewhere in Australia. You can’t imagine how exciting
it is to take my five-minute morning walk to the Art House—spring,
summer, winter and fall with a packet of orders under my arm,
knowing how Synergetics can give all of us more life and more
enjoyment.

SYNERGETICS
IN FLORIDA
Last winter, we did a three-day seminar in The Villages, a beautiful
retirement community outside of Orlando, Florida. We conducted
10 one and a half hour workshops on several subjects: Beginning
Synergetics, Advanced Synergetics, Chair Synergetics and Golf-Body/Golf-Mind.
Because of the wonderful reception we received and the great
support we got from the volunteer teachers, we are doing more
work with retirement communities. The Villages’ regular
Friday class has grown from about thirty participants to over
a hundred and fifty, ranging in age from fifty-five into their
late eighties. The Konstantys often have two to three HUNDRED
students come to their Synergetics class! Link

The volunteer
teachers at The Villages are WONDERFUL. We want to thank them
SO much for all they do. They lead the free Synergetics classes
every Friday and help people with confidence and good humor!
In January,
Joanna made a surprise visit to the Synergetics class at The
Villages, led by Ken Konstanty. There were over 200 people at
Laurel Manor Recreation Center, and we all had a ball! For Florida

TEACHER TRAINING:
So many
people ask us about getting started as Synergetics teachers.
Please contact us and we'll help you get going! We want to share
Synergetics with as many people as possible, so we have a teacher-training
program that can be done long distance. There is no cost for
you—just an investment of your time and effort to become
certified. You can begin teaching others without being certified,
using our instructional materials (videos, books, etc) but you
will find that there are some things that we can share with
you that will make your teaching more effective and enjoyable.

Joanna regularly
plays the violin and mandolin in the Folkboy Orchestra on the
live webcast of the Woodsongs
Old Time Radio Hour .You can tune in on Monday nights! She
has also appeared on NBC's Today Show playing "My Old Kentucky
Home" with Al Roker and Willard Scott. She has played back
up for LeAnn Rimes and Mariana Bell and opened shows for John
Cowan and Darrell Scott to name a few.
TAYLOR'S THOUGHTS:
I celebrated
my 77th birthday on February 11th. So naturally I began feeling
for my body-parts to be sure they were all still there. And
sure enough, they are in about the same shape they were twenty-five
years ago after I began doing Synergetics—same weight,
better flexibility, and almost the same quickness and strength.
When I visited
my son in Sarasota, Florida we played a round of golf. He was
amazed that I hit six out of nine fairways and drove the ball
well over two hundred yards. I thank Synergetics for my golf
body. Here are a couple of photos of me on the tee. I hadn’t
played a full round of golf in a long time.

When I began
jogging (which ultimately ruined my knees) in the middle 1950's
there were only a few exponents of health and exercise like
Charles Atlas (Dynamic Tension) and a movie actor named Bob
Cummings. He wrote a book, Stay Young and Vital that
was published in 1960.
Robert Cummings (June 10, 1908 – December 2, 1990), also
known as Bob Cummings, was an American motion picture and television
actor noted for his fresh-faced youthful look which lasted long
after he was young… He was a staunch advocate of natural
foods and a healthy diet and authored the book Stay Young and
Vital (1960) on health foods and exercise. He was born in Joplin,
Missouri where his father was a surgeon, and according to his
biography online he was taught to fly an airplane by his godfather,
Orville Wright. Yep, he’s the same one who developed the
airplane with his brother, Wilbur!
In Stay
Young and Vital Cummings writes: "I’ve never
met a man or a woman or a child who didn’t instinctively
want to be as healthy, vital and attractive as possible whether
they were ten, or thirty, or fifty, or seventy, or ninety. I’ve
come to believe honestly that the instinct is there because
the possibility is there—that there is a simple, common
sense way by which we can stay at the top of our form at any
and every age."
He goes
on to say: “'Taking care of number one' to me is not the
guide line of the selfish egotist but rather the dedicated task
of Divine Selfishness, because taking good care of you is really
complete unselfishness. Remembering to take good care of yourself
every day could be your first best step to more health and more
life. I'm going to re-read Bob's book!
We know
what to do so why don’t we do it?
Some people
make New Years resolutions, do them for a little while and then
give up until the next New Year and make the same resolutions
all over again. I’ve been there and done that too many
times to count!. Making promises to myself once a year doesn’t
work. But here is a system that does work for me:
First I
make a list of three things that I want to do every day. Here’s
an example:
1. Do a
12-minute Synergetics workout before I eat breakfast.
2. Take an afternoon nap of at least thirty minutes.
3. Take an afternoon stroll-in-the-sun of at least thirty minutes.
These three
things alone will create a steady regeneration -- you'll see
it and feel it! Turn back the aging clock and slow down the
swing of Father Time’s pendulum.
I make an
appointment with myself by writing these three commitments into
my daily calendar with a specific time so that nothing interferes
with my schedule. Sure, there will be exceptions that will mean
changing the actual timing, but these interruptions should be
kept to a minimum. Simply say, ‘Gee, I have an appointment
at that time (with yourself, of course), how about…. Then
set a time that’s best for you. It works for me. It will
work for you!
And you
should do your very best to do all three commitments every day
even if the timing is temporarily off. And since Synergetics
is part of you, like breathing, you can take your exercise,
nap and stroll with you wherever you go.
Here’s
the natural progression of the psychological and physiological
desire to continue to live up to your commitments to yourself:
1. Committing.
2. Scheduling
3. Doing
In a reasonable
time your routine will become a habit and then a positive, pleasant,
and very healthy addiction. Your mind and body will rebel if
you begin skipping what it intuitively knows makes it feel good
and look good. Your body will demand that you continue to do
what makes it balanced and functional. And your ‘mirror,
mirror, on the wall’ will tell you that you are getting
fairer and fairer than you ever believed possible. Regardless
of your present age and physical condition!
Let’s
close with another passage from Bob Cummings’ book: "If
you are at the top of your form, health-wise, your disposition
won’t prickle or irritate either you or those who pass
your way. If you and I are full of energy and enthusiasm we
are of more value in our work, in our homes, in our country.
We are better citizens. We use our leisure more creatively.
We can’t help being better friends, better parents. And
we don’t run the awful risk of becoming a burden to ourselves
and others.… That is only one outstanding warning to all
of us to take care of number one, or practice Divine Selfishness."
